Summer Term 2010 - Year 1
Dear Parents,
Welcome back, I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter Break and is ready for lots of hard work!
The School follows the British National Curriculum. Literacy, Numeracy and Spanish are taught daily. Our topics for this term are:
- ICT: Understanding instructions and making things happen.
- SCIENCE: Sorting and using materials.
- ART & DESIGN: Investigating materials.
- HISTORY: What were homes like a long time ago?
In the second half of the term the following topics will change to:
- SCIENCE: Pushes and pulls.
- ART & DESIGN: Homes.
In Literacy we will continue to study a range of different styles: Narrative, Non-fiction and Poetry.
In Maths the strands of learning are: using and applying mathematics, counting and understanding number, knowing and using number facts, calculating, understanding shape, measuring and handling data.
Of course I am relying on your continued support: listening to reading and returning the reading bag to school each day, (please remember to write a brief comment when you hear your child read), working on the word banks, making sure that Friday's homework is returned on or before the following Wednesday, and helping to learn the spellings for our regular Friday test.
Your child will continue to be able to borrow a library book of their choice each Wednesday, however if they do not have the book with them on a Wednesday obviously they will not be able to choose a new one.
Physical Education (P.E.)
Year 1 will do their P.E lessons twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. A full P.E kit must be brought to school in a Calpe School P.E bag on those days to include Calpe P.E shorts. T-shirt and a pair of trainers. The sports kit and trainers should be clearly labelled with your child's name. We also ask for shoes not to have laces and for long hair to be tied back at all times.
School Uniform
As you are aware, all children must wear the correct full School Uniform at all times. Children should wear summer uniform this term. Please ensure that all items of school uniform are clearly labelled with your child's name. Items of uniform are mislaid on a daily basis, due to these not being correctly labelled with the child's name. Shoes should be black or navy blue and long hair must be tied back at all times. No jewellery is allowed, except small stud earrings.
Snacks
All children should bring a snack for morning break. A snack might include a piece of fruit, a sandwich, plain cake or a savoury biscuit, please also include a small bottle of water. Please do not send in chocolate, crisps or sweets in line with our healthy eating policy. Chewing gum is banned at Calpe School.
School begins promptly at 09.10am and finishes at 4pm. Please bring and collect your child promptly as late arrivals and collections can be very upsetting for your child and are disruptive to the whole class. If your child is not attending for any reason please inform the office as soon as possible. If someone else who is unknown to us is collecting your child, please contact the office. The school must at all times know who they are handing custody over to.
Thank you in advance for your continued support, if you have any doubts or queries either now or throughout the term please do not hesitate to speak to me, either after school, or make an appointment via the office.
Yours Sincerely
Tracey Ritchie
