Playful Penguins

In Literacy this week Reception shared the story ‘Lost and Found’ about a penguin who found his way to a little boy’s house and they became friends. They read words on little fish and fed them to a hungry penguin. In Maths they used penguins to make ‘take away’ stories and wrote the matching subtraction number sentences. During their free play they cut and stuck their own shape penguin pictures and enjoyed threading the penguin lacing cards. They also used the laces to thread the correct amount of beads to match the number cards. In Topic they explored a frozen ocean. The poor polar animals were frozen in the ice. The children tried lots of different ways of getting them out, including using tools, salt and hot water.
